Your ceiling needs replacing? No problem! Ceilings can be re-skimmed or taken down and replaced with plasterboard which is then skimmed.
Reasons why you might want your ceiling replaced or reskimmed :

Example 1
If you have suffered from a leak and the plaster or artex is falling off the ceiling then the plasterboard underneath will also need replacing. The size of the room and leak will dictate how much plaster board is replaced. Plaster, artex and plasterboard do not like getting wet. It makes them soft and weak and will create the perfect home for mould spoors.

Example 2
If someone has put their foot through the ceiling it can be patched and repaired, minimal plasterboard replacement.

Example 3
If the ceiling has been dented or damaged leaving the plasterboard in a good state of repair, then a skim will suffice.

Example 4
Re-skimming to hide cracks! Tape must be used to help prevent cracks, thus holding the plaster together. However this can’t be guaranteed, and will depending upon the movement of the materials/building. If it moves a lot then the crack will probably reappear, even if you have used tape as reinforcement.
